What Will I Learn

The course contains the following elements:

Unit H v     2D and 3D visual language

Unit 2  v     Materials, Techniques and Technology

Unit 3 v     Working to project briefs

The course consists of two work-related vocational units and a summative project set by the examination board, concluding in a portfolio of work completed by April of the final year of the course. The course offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding by working on activities that are personal and expressive, as well as developing solutions to meet a brief.

Applied Art and Design is a well structured and supported course allowing students who work less well independently to succeed within an exciting subject area.

How Will I Be Assessed

Assessment is continuous. The three core units are marked regularly in line with the Applied Art and Design criteria.

Students receive oral and written assessment throughout the course which indicates levels, target-grades, strengths and areas for improvement.  The marks are allocated 66% coursework and 33% controlled test.

Future Opportunities

This course is suitable for all students regardless of career choice as it promotes personal development.  However, it should be considered a must for anyone considering a design based career (including retail, hairdressing, engineering, beauty consultancy, media, television and advertising to name but a few).

Anything Else Need To Know

Applied Art and Design offers an opportunity for students to create a well balanced curriculum for themselves and to select a successful creative subject area where they can thrive.  Homework plays a vital role in the completion of the course and students must be prepared to complete this as part of their coursework
