What Will I Learn

This course contains the following elements which are set in a broad based art context:

 

v     Fine Art (Drawing and Painting)

v     Graphic Design

v     Three Dimensional Design

v     Textiles

BTEC Art and Design is a practical, work related course. Students learn and develop their skills by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. All students complete a portfolio of work alongside an exhibition.

 

The course is made up of six units including:

 

v     2D and 3D Communication

v     Vocational Context

v     Explore and develop ideas

v     Produce an outcome

v     Working to multi media briefs

v     Working to visual arts briefs

How Will I Be Assessed

All units are assessed and graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded – pass, merit, distinction or starred distinction. The units make up the coursework component consisting of a portfolio of evidence of work in all units. This is produced through the set assignments.

 

A final, major project set unit has to be completed by April of the final year of the course. Students work on activities that are personal and expressive as well as developing solutions to meet their own brief.

 

Students receive written and oral assessment throughout the course which indicates levels, target grades, strengths and areas for improvement.  The course is purely teacher assessed.

Future Opportunities
The course offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding which prepares them for employment in any art, craft or design sector. The course also provides an excellent basis for progression to more advanced courses
