Description

This is a two year course delivered on half a day a week.

What will I Learn?

This course is for students who have a keen interest in caring for animals.

 

The course offers chances to:

 

·         Attend the College’s new eco-friendly centre

·         Identify a variety of animals

·         Understand how these animals live

·         Take part in looking after a range of animals

·         Assist in cleaning and feeding

·         Learn about animal health.

 

What are the Entry Requirements?
To get on the course you will need:

·      The potential to achieve mainly grade Cs in your GCSEs

·      To be nominated by your school and complete a satisfactory interview

·      To have good attendance and punctuality records, as well as a good reference from your school

·      A real interest and commitment to the subject and you must be prepared to complete all your assignments on time and to the required standard

·      To inform us about any relevant medical issues and learning support needs that you may have

·      To provided us with an up-to-date immunisation record, this should include Tetanus.

How will I be Assessed
The course will be assessed by building up a portfolio of evidence and assessments will be carried out through observation of practical activities.

Successful completion of the course will give you a BTEC First Certificate in Animal Care.

The course will also give you an opportunity to experience different ways of study, enabling you to transfer more easily on to work-related study when you leave school.
Future Opportunities?
The course can be used alongside your other GCSE’s for any further study or job applications.

You can also continue studies in Animal Care or Conservation at the College as we offer a variety of courses.

Further Information

This is a course delivered as part of the Kirklees Collegiates programme.

You need strong shoes and warm clothes for working outside. Your

clothes may get dirty so it would be advisable to bring an old shirt/overall

to keep your uniform clean. If your school will allow you to dispense with school uniform you could wear old clothes instead.
